Heather Hurley
Heather’s love of food and cooking began as a little girl of 7 alongside her father who was a professional chef in the UK.
By 16 she was working in restaurants, first in the restaurant ‘salle’ but soon moved into the kitchen and has worked as a Chef ever since.
Just over 20 years ago she moved to the South of France near Cannes and Nice as a private chef to a well known Norfolk personality.
She continued as a private chef and Traiteur (caterer) to the rich and famous, but her dream since childhood was to have her own restaurant, so in 2003 she opened La Casa de la Nine.
Heather has been fortunate to be able to travel quite extensively around the world and with her love of food has become comfortable cooking many many different types of foods with a huge variety of ingredients, flavours and spices. She is perfectly at home cooking French, British, Italian, Greek, Indian Chinese, Thai and the list goes on!
Within the restaurant the core of the style is French gastronomy but customers are frequently surprised by the subtle mix of flavours she provides on the plate, these are always carefully balanced to make sense, to go together, and not there ‘just to be different’.
Heather uses quality, fresh produce, as far as possible sourced locally, and believes that excellent food does not need to be, even should not be, overly complex, it is important that the flavour of the base of the dish, the fish, the meat the vegetables or whatever is clear and identifiable.
