In the north of Midi- Pyrénées are the Parc Regional Des Causses, limestone plateaus, and the Aubrac plateau, a wild moorland plain at about 1000m, with their stunning river gorges e.g. the Gorges du Tarn and du Lot. The limestone cliffs and green hills to which fortified villages and towns seem to cling are a spectacular sight. To the west of this region are the rolling hills with farmland and many picturesque villages and as you come to pretty relaxed Cahors you have the feeling that you are now really in the south of France. The red brick buildings, the medieval streets, the excellent market and the vineyards that stretch south as far as the eye can see help to give you this impression. Yet some say that Millau, location of the world's highest bridge, is the gateway to the south.
Midi- Pyrénées is great for people who love to be outdoors, with its white-water rivers and numerous lakes there are many water sports, but this region is also good for walking, cycling, fishing, horse-riding and with its cliffs and mountains you can enjoy skiing, hang- and paragliding, climbing, caving or simply relaxing in a health spa to name just a few possibilities.
