MIDI PYRÉNÉES

Are you thinking of moving to the Midi-Pyrénées region? We hope that the following information will be of help to you but please also use the links where further details can be found.

Where is the Midi-Pyrénées region?

The Midi-Pyrénées, situated in the south west, is the largest region of France. It borders – clockwise – Limousin and the mountains of the Auvergne in the north, travel east and you come to Languedoc-Roussillon, south are the Pyrénées mountains and Spain and westwards is Aquitaine and beyond it the Atlantic ocean. Here we have no fewer than 8 departments : Ariège (09), Aveyron (12), Gers (32), Haute-Garonne (31), Haute- Pyrénées (65), Lot (46), Tarn (81) and Tarn-et-Garonne (82).

The capital is Toulouse, one of the largest cities in France and one of the fastest growing cities in Europe! It has a lovely location as it is on the banks of the river Garonne, close to the Pyrénées and between the Mediterranean and Atlantic ocean. The people of Toulouse like being outdoors, visiting their markets and looking at the world from a terrace drinking coffee or sipping something a bit stronger. This large university city with its numerous 'grandes écoles' and institutes has strong ties with the arts – opera, music, dance etc. - and sport (rugby). Moreover, Toulouse is nowadays one of the European leaders in high tech industry and this is probably the top aeronautics complex on the continent (Airbus aircraft). Its links with aviation go way back to Clement Adler, who was born near the city and became the first man to fly in a motorised aircraft. A component industry plus many other industries are based here.
