He starts with a look at the Grimaldi family and how the fortunes of the family and country have changed during war and peace. The picture that is often painted of
Monaco leads us to believe it is gambling and the high life that attracts people but Patrick points out that banking and tax avoidance are really behind why people live there.
Monaco is the size of New York Central Park, has a population of 32000 of which 27000 are foreigners and 3000 of these are British. Even more surprisingly there are 58 banks serving these residents. 60 billion Euros are said to be housed in these. There is criticism of the banking systems from outside especially as it is extremely difficult to find out where the money comes from and who has placed it there.
Patrick gives us much more information that may well dispel any myths that are commonly passed round including something on the link with the German SS during the last war.
Patrick speaks to us regularly and we recommend you listen to his other broadcasts in the publications section of our programme file. If you would like to know more about his magazine 'The Riviera Reporter', then please go to his website at: www.rivierareporter.com
